08.01 Exam tomorrow
08月 1st, 2006 Posted 08:00
Last sunday I went to China Town with a classmate from Tailand to have lunch.
I had 炒牛河 and they offered me such a big portion that I ate only half of it.
After that we went to Tate Britain Gallary. Some of the paintings are amazing! Unfortunately I couldn't take photos there.
Then I went to ask for hotels and walked across Hyde Park.
There are a lot of people in the park, walking, talking, playing...
I find European people really enjoy their lives. They often go to parks to relax in weekends.
Also pubs and theatres. Every time when I walk past pubs and theatres in the evening, I find crowds of people there. Especially at weekends.
Something interesting:
Last sunday when I went to a small hotel to ask about the prices, a boy from Poland (he didn't look nice) at the reception room asked for my name and phone number, and asked if he could ask me out for a coffee or something. And when I asked if they provide breakfast, he hesitated, "actually we don't offer breakfast, but I can do it for you." And I laughed.
I don't feel like going out with him but I found that whole thing amusing~ Haha~
Now I have to go back to study, because I'll take the mid-term examination tomorrow... :em217:
Wish me good luck...
p.s. I've found a way to type in Chinese!
Step 1: Log on www.baidu.com
Step 2: Type Chinese Pin Yin in the search field. E.g. type "chaoniuhe" and press Enter.
Step 3: There'll be a sentence like: "您要找的是不是: 炒牛河"
Step 4: Copy the "炒牛河" and paste it!

07.29 British Museum
07月 30th, 2006 Posted 08:00
I went to Borough Market for shopping this morning.
There's one vegetable seller, quite fat a man. He looks really happy, for he sing very loudly in the market. Luckily he's got a beautiful voice, so I really enjoyed it.
Later in the afternoon I went to British Museum. British really robbed a lot of things from around the world, especially Egypt, Rome and Greece. I'm so confused -- how did they carry so many giant and heavy anitiques back to UK? Some of the stones are like 4m high and 5m long. Things from China are not as many as I thought.
I didn't see the museum very carefully, for there're so many things and I'm not that interested in African, and Asian antiques. In the museum I met an LSE Summer School student from China. We then walked to Oxford Street, Soho, Piccadily Circus, Trafalgar Square Square and China Town. Looks like quite a lot of places, but actually they are close to each other. I'll upload some pics later.

7.25 the reception and other
07月 25th, 2006 Posted 08:00
Yesterday evening we had our welcome reception. It was not like what I thought it should be. People just talk around. At first I met some boring girls, but later some people from Greece and Spain came to us, I had a good talk with them.
After the so called "reception", I walked back to my residence house at about 20:00. As I was passing the Blakfair Bridge, I saw a breathtaking scene of Thames River. Sunset, golden water, seegulls... (UK has really long day in summer. The sun rises at 5 and sets at 9!)
People here are really friendly. I sometimes come across some strangers saying hello to me. It feels great!
I cooked myself something last night. Cabbages, tomatoes and eggs. Mum was surprised at it. I myself am surprised too -- I never cook at home.

7.24 First day for class
07月 24th, 2006 Posted 08:00
15:10
I have just finished the 1st lecture 2 hours ago. I could not understand all of the lecture, but at least 60%, I think. The professor joked sometimes during the lecture, but unluckily I could understand just a few of them. What makes me feel better is that most of the classmates come from foreign countries, so for quite a few times, just several students laughed when she told a joke.
According to the teacher, LSE Summer School has been run for 17 years, while this year they have the biggest number of students ever – about 3000 students from over 95 countries! For Session 2, there are 1500.
I met several Chinese classmates during the lecture. They are from Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen… But it seemed that non of them lives in my residence house…
Speaking of the residence house, it takes about 35 – 40 minutes to walk to school, and I have to walk as fast as I can, or it’ll take me about 50 mins. But it feels good to cross the Thames River to school everyday, and a little weird, wonderfully weird. It was sunny when I crossed the bridge yesterday and today, and the river and the banks were so beautiful! I met 3 flatmates yesterday. Two girls from Brazil and Ghana, and a boy from Japan. They are kind and friendly.
I made 2 sandwiches this morning, one for breakfast and another taken to school for lunch. I put 3 slices of bread, 1 fried egg, 2 thin slices of ham (bought yesterday from supermarket), a small tomato and slices of “Sheng Cai ” (I forget the English name ^@^ ice??? ) in each sandwich. Really big, right? Haha~
Because it gets dark very late everyday (at about 9 pm), some times I get home after 7 and don’t feel hungry. So I just have a little for supper at about 9. Hopefully I wouldn’t gain too much weight during this month…
Now my biggest problem is to manage my time efficiently. I’ll work on that.
We will have a welcome reception this evening. Hope it'll be fun.
So much for today.

Surprise!!!
After a long long trip, I arrived here, safe and sound.
Everything’s fine.
And everything's so expensive!!!

It feels so weird to go across Thames to school everyday!
Weird, but wonderfully weird.
